Partners in the Parks: Cedar Breaks National Monument

This project will include snowshoeing into Cedar Breaks National Monument located approximately 30 minutes from Cedar City, Utah. Participants will sleep at the monument's yurt, and engage in seminars, participate in snow-related recreation, and gain a better perspective and love for a unique winter environment in one of our nations most treasured national monuments. All meals, ground transportation, and on-site accommodations will be provided during the project.

Participants will spend 4 days and 3 nights in Cedar Breaks National Monument. While in the monument, participants will snowshoe; build snow structures; learn about climate, biology, nature's impact on humans, and geology; and serve as volunteers for the monument. This is a high altitude project, participants should be prepared for cold temperatures and be able to hike at least 5 miles.

Participants should arrive in Cedar City, Utah no later than 9 pm on Thursday, January 11th and should plan on departing Cedar City after 2 pm on Monday, January 15th. Transportation can be arranged by flight through Cedar City, Las Vegas, or St. George, UT.


 *Protip from your facilitator: "I ask that students arrive one day early so their bodies can adjust to the elevation and temperature. Altitude sickness is a real concern and an early arrival will help students stay healthy." -Jayci Bash

Cost: $500 (includes administrative fees)
