Partners in the Parks: Harper's Ferry / Alumni Retreat
Register Tell a Friend About This EventTell a Friend

NCHC Partners in the Parks has 12 years of “alumni” - students, faculty and park staff who have been involved in past projects from 2005 to 2017. For the past three years Partners has run a Director’s Retreat to help incubate projects and give Honors directors and faculty a Partners experience. Due to the meaningful conversations and intensity of a partners project there is a bond that is built from the shared experiences of participants.

Over the years participants and leaders of individual projects have stayed in touch, by email and social media. The time seems right to organize a Partners in the Parks Alumni Retreat, bringing together alumni from projects over the twelve year span. As with all Partners projects there would be elements of Recreation, Education and Stewardship. The last of these, stewardship, will be an emphasis of this project in light of the ongoing fiscal challenges faced by the National Park Service and ongoing budget cuts, and the rising concern of losing public lands to development and resource extraction. In addition to recreation, there will be workshops that will help prepare participants to meet with Senators and Congressmen from their districts on the final day of the project to advocate for the National Park Service and federally protected lands.

Lodging

The National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) which partners with the National Park Service could provide facilities, lodging and meals on-site for a larger group. NCTC is located in Shepherdstown, WV. Should the group grow larger than our reserved space at NCTC for lodging there is off-site lodging available in Shepherdstown that could accommodate additional participants.
